I enjoy engaging in a relatable way with the public and media to promote science and women’s health. I’ve worked with the Science Media Centre, to comment on papers in the press, for example about C-section risks.
I have been interviewed about my research on radio 4’s Today programme, Victoria Derbyshire TV programme, Woman’s Hour and several BBC World Service programmes, and given some links below.
I have written about the need for more basic science research and funding focussed on the science of labour, in the Times, Guardian, Research Fortnight and various websites including BBC News Health News.
I have worked with the Academy of Medical Sciences encouraging members to engage with the media, and contribute to events to promote science, such as the BA Festival of Science, and Sense about Science events. I also participated in Radio 4’s The Third Degree.
I have been fortunate and able to make numerous contributions, from press articles, book chapters and a book, focussing on women in science, addressing concerns and celebrating success. I am proud to have spoken at meetings, seminars and schools about my work, family and career, as an “inspiring woman in science and role model”, worldwide, and to contribute to events for International Women’s Day.
